The Team
In honor of its 70th anniversary, Glamour Magazine featured Karen Solomon as one of the 70 women they consider to be environmental leaders and heroes.
Karen was also honored in 2009 by the Los Angeles Business Journal at the Women Who Mean Business Awards and the 2009 recipient of the International Green Dot Award for Community and Policy.
Along with partner Michael Flynn, Karen launched Opportunity Green in 2007 for the purpose of leading the advancement of sustainable entrepreneurship, raising awareness of the importance of the triple bottom line and building strategic partnerships between thought leaders, business owners and The Next Generation Thought Leadship.
She and Mike felt that UCLA was the perfect setting for a green business conference: Los Angeles had the population, education, diversity, economy and most importantly, the desire for sustainability that they were looking for to showcase their new initiative.
Karen's extensive background in politics, international sales, marketing, media, technology and project management for companies such as DataDirect Networks, Women In Technology and Wales Ltd (Israel), among others, has provided her with the tools to create something that could really make a difference. The initial success of Opportunity Green has already made that difference, creating an educational and networking platform that continues to grow beyond the conference level to include salons, marketing events, eco-retreats and in the near future, the Opportunity Green Resource Center and Business Conferences / Road Show, connecting the leaders of sustainability with the Greenest Generation at colleges and Universities across the country and eventually, the globe. Karen is a graduate of Rutgers College (BA), Rutgers University.
