Just in time for the Long Beach Grand Prix, BP invited guests to the Helios House to preview the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) racing vehicles. Location is everything and the BP Helios House was the perfect venue to host the event. Constructed from both recycled and sustainable materials, Helios House exceeds current environmental standards for on-site water collection and uses 16 percent less electricity than traditional stations.
The ALMS vehicled pictured boasts the use of E10 fuel, which contains 10% Ethanol. Opportunity Green Co-Founder, Mike Green, also met ALMS President and CEO Scott Atherton, who is interested in incorporating more sustainable fuels. However, Atherton wants to ensure his organization uses fuels that will also be available to the public.
According to ALMS, Michelin will present the MICHELIN® Green X® Challenge award at each 2009 ALMS race to the prototype and GT teams which demonstrate the best overall performance and fuel efficiency with the least environmental impact. At the end of the season, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in conjunction with SAE International will present Green Challenge™ awards to manufacturers in each class who have scored best during the entire season.
