David Rockwell: Designing for Play

Posted on 12. Feb, 2010 by in Design & Culture

David Rockwell, the Architect who was responsible for Kodak Theater and the Jet Blue Terminal at the JFK airport, speaks about his passion for play. He designed the 2008 Academy award’s stage design in the Kodak Theater. It was by far the most beautiful stage set I have ever seen, and I remember watching the Oscars that year and wondered who was the man behind it–now I know. It was amazing the risk he took and the problems that he had to resolve to make the set happen.

Play = Risk

His work was based on his love of play. It was something in his DNA. His newest project in collaboration with KaBoom to erect hundreds of pop-up playgrounds in America. Kids that play with imagination, nothing is fixed, anything can be everything. (Article from KaBoom)
