Emmy Award winning film producer, Sherry Simpson Dean is known for her deep commitment to human rights and civil liberties. Her film, “Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony”, is a multiple award-winner of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival. Her rare, historic footage of Nelson Mandela dancing jubilantly at South Africa's first free election celebration in Soweto is treasured internationally. Currently serving as Opportunity Green's Executive Strategist, Sherry is a distinguished member of the Metropolitan Water District's Blue Ribbon Committee, where she chairs the communications subgroup. Formally, the Executive Director of the United Nations Association, Simpson-Dean has been honored for her outstanding record in the development of innovative programs both local and globally in support of the UN Millennium Development Goals. Launched in 2011, she led the development of Pasadena's Green Business Certification Pilot Program. The 2010 Woman of the Year, 21st Congressional District and 2010, National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) Humanitarian of the Year Award recipient, Sherry is an adjunct professor in the department of Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College. A Boston University graduate, she began her career in the burgeoning Music Industry, where she worked with such cultural icons as Russel Simmon, the Rolling Stones, Snoop Dogg and Public Enemy. A canyon hiker & bread pudding affcianado, she resides with her film-maker husband, two children and rescue dog "Nala" in their craftsman cottage in Pasadena.
