Los Angeles Center Studios

The Los Angeles Center Studios is the exciting epicenter of many blockbuster movies and original television shows such as Mr. and Ms. Smith and Mad Men. Even more important than that - from the buildings, to the food to the landscaping, the LACS grounds have been retrofitted with health and environment in mind. Read more below.

Los Angeles Center Studios - Focused on the Environment

Ten years ago the main buildings at Los Angeles Center Studios were the national headquarters for an oil company. It took extraordinary vision to imagine that such a facility could be, let alone excel as, an independent studio. And it took significantly more than building sound stages to change the lot into a home for the creative community, but the investment paid off. Equal effort was invested to both envision and pursue the transformation of a more than 50 year old office tower into an environmentally and economically efficient building by todays' standards; however, the campus is succeeding in that endeavor as well.

When compared to a 2005 base year, Los Angeles Center Studios saw reductions of 68% in gas, 32% in electricity and 26% in water utilities in 2008. The recycling efforts made by LACS led to additional savings in natural resources in 2008 including the equivalent of 2,640 trees, 159 tons of paper and plastic, and over 1,000,000 gallons of water. Due to ever-expanding efforts, it has been predicted that LACS will have conserved 35% more natural resources in 2009 than in the year prior. There are numerous factors that have led to these reductions - some relied on expensive upgrades while others relied on only a slight change in habit. Amazingly, even the expensive upgrades paid for themselves in six months due to increased productivity.

Los Angeles Center Studios recently teamed up with the community of tenants and producers on the lot to initiate several new programs to increase efficiency and cut waste. A few of these new initiatives include composting catering/craft waste as well as lawn clippings, recoiling fryer oil liquids, incentivizing public transportation, switching to electronic means of communication, and utilizing more recycled and reusable materials. The entire campus seems to recognize the vital importance of preserving the environment on a data-to-day basis. From this community effort, the lot has once again been transformed, this time into the premier environmentally-focused independent studio.
