Amazon Shipping Tracking 101: How do I Track my Amazon Shipment?

Do you have an order that is taking more than the expected delivery time, and you want to track it? Come in now and check our step-by-step guide on how to track your orders on Amazon.

Amazon is a big name in the eCommerce business; they have a track record of excellence in customer service and deliver more than one million packages per day. Amazon doesn't disappoint in delivery; as a matter of fact, they have a definite date for your parcel to get to you. The thing is, it could be tiring having to wait for your shipment for days before getting them. Sometimes you could just be anxious and can't wait to get your parcel delivered to you. Sometimes, you just want to know the exact location of the driver, so you can calculate how much more days or hours are left before you get your shipment.

Track my Amazon Shipment

It doesn't only help you know your shipment's location, it also helps you plan your day or week — as the case may be — accordingly. So, do you have a parcel with Amazon on delivery that has not reached you? Or are you just curious how this tracking works? Whatever your reason is, let's find out how you can track your Amazon orders in this article.

How do I Track my Amazon Shipment?

When you place an order on Amazon, they provide you with a unique identification number for your parcel. That identification number is checked always, and a report is sent to you on the status of your parcel. The identification number is assigned to your shipment, and it can be emailed to you, or you can get it on the order page. There are various means to track your Amazon shipment, but in this article, we shall be zeroing in on three main means.

  • Mobile devices (using the Amazon app).
  • Computer devices.
  • Using Amazon tracking map.
  • Third-party mobile applications.

Using Mobile Devices

You can track your Amazon shipment right on your mobile devices. However, this can't be completed without having the Amazon app on your phone.

If you do not have the Amazon app on your mobile device prior, you can visit PlayStore to get it installed on your Android device. For iOS, you can visit AppStore to install the Amazon app.

With the app in place, let's get down to business.

Step 1: Open the app and sign in with your Amazon sign-in details. (If you do not have an account, you can create one to start placing orders).

Step 2: When you are signed in. Tap on your Profile (it is the user icon at the bottom of your screen)

Signed in and Tap on your Amazon Profile

Step 3: There you will find your orders and their details such as arrival date. Click on the particular shipment you wish to track. You can do that by clicking See all updates

clicking See all updates

Step 4: When you click See all updates, it will reveal the current location of your shipment and as well keep you updated on your shipment journey progress.

Using Computer Devices

The process of using g your PC to track your shipment is a bit different from that mobile device. That's understandable as you are not using an application in this case.

Let's get on with the steps below.

Step 1: Open your browser and visit the Amazon website.

visit the Amazon website

Step 2: Sign in to your Amazon account.

Step 3: Click on Returns & Orders in the upper right.

Step 4: Locate your order history (there should be a number of your past orders) and click on Track Package button beside the order you intend to track. Note that you cannot track items that have not yet been shipped.

Step 5: You will find your order status, tracking ID, and estimated arrival date.

If you found out that the supposed delivery date of your shipment has passed and your tracking ID remains the same, just be patient for a day or two, and your parcel will be delivered to you.

Using Amazon Tracking Map

With this option, you can track your shipment on a live map. On the day of delivery, you will be able to see the exact location of the driver. This is to help inform you do you could prepare and be at the place of delivery in time. If you signed up for an Amazon delivery alert, they would notify you when the map is available to view. The map only becomes available to view when the driver is approaching your location. You cannot see the stops, but you can see his movements.

In cases of confidential surprise gift deliveries, the map will be disabled, though, so you can't find them. This is acting in the interest of the sender and delivering just as instructed. You must be signed in to your Amazon account to view the map. Now let's find out how you can use the Amazon tracking map to track your shipment.

Step 1: Log in to your Amazon account with your login credentials. Just the same as the process highlighted above.

Step 2: Tap on Your Orders.

Tap on Your Orders

Step 3: Tap on Track Package

Step 4: Your Amazon delivery has to be activated.

Step 5: You will get a notification when the driver is 10 stops before your location. Then you can stop tracking his movement. The view is something like the one on the image shared by a Twitter user below.

Unfortunately, though, this map tracking option only works if your shipment is being delivered through a dedicated Amazon vehicle. If your package is being delivered via other carriers such as UPS, FedEx, or the United States Postal Service (USPS), you will not be able to use the map to track your shipment. Note that the map tracking option can be accessed using the Amazon app on both Android and iOS. It can also be tracked on the Amazon website.

Using Third-Party Apps

Third-party apps help you know the current location of your Amazon shipment regardless of the carrier. Recall that we mentioned above that not all carriers can be tracked on the Amazon map. In fact, only Amazon carriers can be seen on the Amazon app tracking map. One advantage of these third-party apps is that they help you track the location of all the carriers mentioned above and more, using the same UI (User Interface). And thus, keeping you updated on the situation of your shipment without having to switch applications.

The app is particularly useful for users who regularly use carriers such as FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc. Some of these apps are paid but cost only a very small fee on a yearly or monthly basis, depending on your preference.  Let's check them out one after the other below.
