Processing fees

Another reason why Walmart does not use Apple Pay is the processing fees. While Apple claims that Apple Pay is free to use, the card issuer is responsible for making charges n their behalf. Therefore, Walmart will be forced to pay different processing fees depending on the card used. This would affect its profits as these fees can be extremely high.

Marketing Benefits

Walmart uses purchase data to send customized recommendations, ads, and notifications. However, Apple Pay does not allow merchants to capture data when paying for their purchases. Therefore, Walmart uses Walmart Pay to promote its brand and boost customer loyalty.
